The Desert Breeze Water Resource Center is a unique water
reclamation facility that began operation in the spring of
2003 in the southwest area of the Las Vegas valley. This
state-of-the-art facility uses the latest in water treatment
technologies to provide reclaimed water via a separate
distribution system directly to the golf courses in the
communities of Red Rock, Rhodes Ranch, Siena and Spanish
Trail.
The demand for reclaimed water is high, since recent
legislation has required that any new golf courses must use
reclaimed water for turf irrigation when it becomes
available. This increased use of reclaimed water represents
a “win-win” benefit for the entire community, supplying
water for irrigation needs without tapping into our drinking
water supply—the right water for the right use.
Desert Breeze Water Distribution
System
Water
treated at the Desert Breeze Water Resource Center supplies
golf courses in the southwest area of the Las Vegas valley
through an advanced system of pump stations and signature
purple pipelines that identify reclaimed water. The entire
distribution system was built and is maintained by the Las
Vegas Valley Water District. The Water Resource Center
currently reclaims all available wastewater from the area,
with capacity to expand operations as flows increase to 10
million gallons per day.

Reclaimed Water – A Key to Wise Management of our Precious
Water Resources
New and exciting advances in wastewater technologies have
made water reclamation an important community investment and
a critical environmental effort in our desert home. Our very
survival relies upon the wise stewardship of our precious
water resources. It is imperative that we use – and reuse –
every drop wisely.
Reclaimed water is wastewater that has been treated
well enough to be used for irrigation, industrial coolant
and water features, such as fountains, ponds and waterfalls.
The nutrient-rich water allows golf courses and parks to cut
down on the amount of fertilizer they use, thereby
decreasing the amount of runoff loaded with chemicals
entering the environment. While not suitable for drinking,
reclaimed water is safe for plants and humans enjoying irrigated
areas, such as parks, playing fields and golf courses.
The State of Nevada takes an active role through the Nevada
Division of Environmental Protection, setting stringent
regulations to ensure that reclaimed water quality will be
safe to return to the environment. We put our water through
rigorous and regular testing to ensure that we meet or
exceed state standards in water quality.
Meeting
the needs of a growing population presents numerous
challenges when there are limited resources. The use of
reclaimed water is one example of how we can best manage our
limited water resources. Water reclamation just makes good
sense—it is cost effective, environmentally responsible and
provides for the needs of our entire community while, at the
same time, protecting our future.
