New Facility Construction to Start

The communities that make up the Moapa Valley area recognize the need to adopt wastewater treatment and water conservation practices for the greater good of the Valley’s residents and the environment. The Clark County Water Reclamation District is teaming up with the community to construct the Moapa Valley Water Resource Center.

Groundbreaking for the new Moapa Valley Water Resource Center took place on February 21, 2008 at the old Overton ponds, which is where the new facility is to be built. Among those in attendance were County Commissioners Bruce Woodbury and Tom Collins, U.S. Congressman Jon Porter, State Senator Warren Hardy along with Water Reclamation District Chair, Commissioner Chip Maxfield. Tom Mullin represented US Senator Harry Reid.

The 35 year old lagoons can not meet the current standards needed to protect the environment, including surface and groundwater resources. The new facility will address these issues and result in the release of cleaner water into the environment. The estimated completion date for this exciting new project is Fall 2009.

How will the new treatment facility operate?

The new treatment facility features bar screens, grit removal tanks, aeration basins, clarifiers, aerobic sludge digesters, and percolation basins that remove impurities and conserve every valuable drop of water, while regular lab testing ensures that the water being released to the environment is clean.
